location images from my house

This is the location for where Beth will see the flashlight shinning into the house. The location is in my kitchen, and it will be filmed at night, so that it looks scary and thrilling. I edited the picture to show how dark it will look on camera and I think overall that the setting to see the stalker through this window is quite realistic and as an audience member you wouldn't see it as been far fetched or over exhaudraed.
Location: My kitchen, in my house.

The location for another crucial part of the first of the two minutes is the French doors in my house. Beth will go down stairs to see them wide open, when she locked them before she went upstairs. The fact that the doors are now open is thrilling to watch.
Location: My dining room, in my house

The locations will be my house for the first two minutes of the film. It looks realistic and I think the idea of French doors and the flash torch shining through someone's house, is very thrilling and as a viewer you would be able to relate and emphasise with how you would feel if someone was stalking your house and invading your personal space.

dark images, angry pen strokes, shadows, graphic imagery, needles (symbolise pain), images of children, music = tension, jumps cuts, violent connotations, scissors = phycological, razor cuts off finger tips/ removing his identity, identity sewing together - creating a new identity, violent, jagged words, scratched names of producer ect, distorted images and names, LITERATURE KEY, specific three lines of small writing in one standard line.

signifier the context of how you see this.
death, pain, horror, phycological, stalker?, harsh images, not done in chronological order - montage, god replenishes his sins - via old identity to the new identity, seven deadly sins?

signification meaning, what i thought of this detailed explanation.

In my opinion I think that the  that the film se7en has a great way to open up and that when you analyze the opening title sequence shot by shot you as the audience get to see a lot more and understand a large part of the plot and the storyline. from the notes that i have taken i feel that the film is based on a literature backgroud that shows some graphic and violent images, which make me feel that they story is about pain. The use of the music which also opens the film creates tension which is magnified with jump cuts, and the violent connatations which are apparant with the angry pen strokes which make it looka asif the nemaes of the actors and produces have been scratched in showing haterd. The shots that involve the image of scissors shows a phychological side of the film also the razor that we see implies that the man is cutting off his finger tips, this could be stripping his own identity for something he has done wrong. However when we see the pages being sewon together this makes me feel asif the man is trying to create himself a new identity. Could this be when we see the word "GOD" and then at the end of the title sequence we here some lyrics that suggest the whole story is linked to God himself. This lead me to question the fact that the man implies to cut off his finger tips with a razor blade that he might be doing this for God to wash away his sins to create a new identity to replenish himslef of the seven deadly sins. All of this happens in non - chronolgical order and is a montage of events all the way through the opening title sequence, throughout this the camera always reverts back to the book which has three kines of small writing in the standard one sized notebook line, could this mean that the whole film is sepecific to the whole detail and analysis in the book,l making the viewer think that the man is in some phychological confusion and that he ha staken his pain out on others by killing them? Could this be why he wants to take off his old identity and relenish it with God and sewing the pages of the book together are creating a new identity leading him to be a free man and forget about his past almost as if he will be living a double life in the future.

she gets out of the car and start talking about cheerleader try outs with her friend and her mother. Shot reverse shot is used to show them having a conversation and to show emotion

Diagetic music is playing in the background to cause tension and to build up suspense.

Treatment 2- First two minutes.

'Don't look behind you'

Opening and summary of the first two minutes:

The first shot shows Beth stood at the french doors in her dinning room, looking terrified as a flashlight is shone through the doors into the house. A close up of her terrified face is shown and the shot devolves. From then on the two minutes are shown in the past returning to present times at various points, as Beth  pieces together the last couple of days when she has felt a presence following her. These shots consist of the door mysteriously been open when she was certain she had locked it,music been played outside her house at night time and the  gut feeling of been followed when she was making her way to the bus stop. The two minutes will end as the flash light disappears. Beth walks out onto the decking terrified to see that nobody's there.

What we aim to do in the first two minutes of the film, is to incite our audience and hook them to want to watch the film. They should feel excited and slightly appreciative wanting to view the whole film. Ideally we want to leave the viewers excited and ready to watch the full film. They should know the genre of the film and be ready to watch the rest of the thriller and be ready to enjoy the physiological thriller.

Treatment 1:

In the film we intend to have a thrilling story line, filled with action and physiological goings on that will incise our audience and leave them hooked. We intend to do this by using different shots, props and music. Although we won't be having any explosions, we will have various other things that will make viewers excited and drawn in. We will have various props like the corpse of a cat, police cars at the end of the film with flashing sirens and lights, also we will have props like knives and gruesome scenes where blood and gore is involved, however only minimum as it is a thriller and not a horror film.

Title: Don't look behind you

Duration: Our target audience is both genders aged from 15-45 years old. We think the young cast will attract the teenage  audience and the actual storyline and plot will attrcat the older generation, who enjoys physiological thrillers.

 Summary of the film:

Beth Williams is a 17 year old popular college student. She lives at home with her parents. Beth's parents have gone  to London for the week, for her mothers birthday, but Beth been a typical teenager decided that she didn't want to go, and instead she would stay at home, looking after the house and her cat Aurthur. It comes to the viewers attention, that this popular college student has been stalked by a strange boy that she has been through school with her  called Liam Ronson. His obsession has been  growing and growing and due to his illness of schizophrenia, Liam's  mental state is worrying and Beth could be in deep danger, by his fascination of her. When her parents go to London, various things happen throughout the week. Beth has felt a presence where ever she has been, whether this be shadows behind her when she's walking to and from college. Strange noises outside her house and weird prank calls. However things become a lot worst during the final days of her parents stay at London. Two days before her parents are due home, Beth starts to panic, when she goes downstairs after a bath, to see the french doors she thought she had locked are wide open, and the net curtains blowing out into the pitch black outdoors. She hears a noise and shuts the doors quickly locking them behind her. She then phones her parents, expressing her worries but after reassurance from her father, she believes that she is been 'paranoid' and 'overacting'. Convinced that there is nothing to worry about she goes upstairs to bed. The following night Beth goes to bed early, excited and relived that her parents would be home the following day. When she hears screaming outside her heart sinks. Terrified, she doesn't move, thinking that its in her mind over thinking things again when its not needed. Then, this theory is dismissed when she sees a bright flash torch light shining through her bedroom window. Bravely, she runs downstairs holding a cricket bat that she found in her fathers wardrobe, she goes to the french doors and see's that there isn't' anyone there. Feeling relief, she goes back upstairs to her bedroom. Overwhelmed and exhausted she falls asleep. Beth is awoken, by Liam hovering over her trying to suffocate her with a plastic bag. She tries to fight him of. Beth remembers the bat beside her and picks it up, hitting Liam around the head with it. He falls to the ground and she runs downs stairs screaming. As she runs downstairs, she hears a car reversing up the drive. Its her parents. She runs to the doors crying hysterically, and as she runs outside she see's her cat Aurthur dead on the patio. She screams and her parents run up the drive. The police is phoned and Liam is taken to a mental institution where he would be treated for his schizophernia. The family are terrified by what happened but happy that Beth is alive and well.
* 12 months pass*
and the family are happy and back  to normal. They are sat at the breakfast table when they all go silent. Liam  is on the news, he has escaped from the institution after injuring two nurses. Beths mum and dad re sure her that she will be fine and after talking to the police, the family are told that they  are not at risk, as Liam health has deteriorated so bad that he cannot even remember Beth. Or so they thought. Later that night when Beth is laid in bed, and her parents sat downstairs, she hears a cackle outside her bedroom followed by the familiar light of the flash torch shining through her bedroom window. She screams...

Suggested elements: Our film 'Don't look behind you' is different to all the other stalking films about because it has a wider target audience than all of the other stalking based films. It has something for teens and middle age people of both genders, which will keep them both hooked. The thriller will be physiological and pacey, and very physiological yet simple enough to understand and follow. The fact that the film is  a thriller and not a horror makes it more unusual to contain something like stalking. The storyline is the main thing which will stand out to the audience, the fact that it's not too gruesome means that people can enjoy the horror element it hs to it, with out witnessing too much blood and gore.
Research into similar films.        Scream

We have been looking at various films that are like our genre or like our storyline plot. Some of the films we have found are quite similar are below:

Scream:
Genre: The genre of scream is more horror than thriller, therefore it differs from ours in that aspect. Scream contains quite a lot of gory horror and violence, however our film will be very thrilling and exciting appose to scary.
Plot: The plot of scream is more similar to our film than the genre is. Scream's opening scene is about a young woman been stalked by a strange masked man who is trying to kill her. This idea is pretty similar to ours, however it differs in the way that we are having a more realistic school boy crush stalker as appose to a grown man dressed up hiding his identity. Although i feel that Scream is a good film, and i think that the fact that the stalker's identity is hidden i feel that by ours been based on a slightly younger stalker who's identity is revealed it is more of a thriller than a horror, so that is where they differ once more.

Movie Info

Scream is at once a slasher film and a tongue-in-cheek position paper on the "dead teenagers" movies of the late 1970s/early 1980s that plays as half-parody, half-tribute. Sydney Prescott (Neve Campbell) is having a rough time lately: she's still getting over the brutal rape and murder of her mother a year ago, and now one of her friends (Drew Barrymore) has been killed by a lunatic who harassed her with terrifying phone calls, then stabbed her to death while wearing a Halloween costume. This is the trailer for Scream, as you can see, the woman is been stalked by a man who hs hidden his identity behind a mask. Although the plot is different to mine, the idea of stalking makes our films very similar to each others, also both of our main charters a women/girls who are been stalked for some reason by a male.
